Top Ten Questions
1. What type of Church is SPV?
The St. Pete Vineyard is a member of the Vineyard Movement, which is a family of churches in the US & world-wide; we welcome everyone, regardless of their beliefs. We are a Bible-based community who places a high value on Worship, Authenticity, and Relevance for all ages.
2. What are your services like?
Our services are fun, engaging, and filled with opportunities to express our love for God through passionate worship, reflection on His Word and genuine friendship. Pastor Chris challenges us to understand God as a person that looks like Jesus, not a far off concept- this fuels how we love ourselves, our families, our church, and the community we find ourselves in. Our services rarely run longer than 90 minutes.
3. Will I have to do anything, say anything or give anything?
You are free to just come and observe or to join in, whichever you prefer. You will not be asked or expected to do anything that you are not comfortable with. Our offerings are for those who call SPV their church home, and even then, we will never ask you to give financially if it puts your family, or your own financial situation in jeopardy.
4. What do you have for my children?
We are pleased to offer a dynamic, creative, and loving ministry to children from birth to 5th grade. During the worship service, we offer nursery and classes that are well supervised and specifically designed for your child's enjoyment and development. All of our children's workers have had background checks as the safety of our children is of utmost importance. We also like the children's lessons to follow a simpler version of what Pastor Chris is teaching, so when you all get in the car, you can talk about it together! Our workers are available to greet you as you walk up and guide you to the appropriate classrooms.
5. What ministries or programs do you have?
We offer several ways to get plugged in such as our weekly community groups, community outreaches, men's & women's groups, feeding the homeless, Nights of worship & Healing, and more. Feel free to search our website for more info or pick up some of the materials available at our welcome center and in our program each week.
6. How do I join SPV and get more involved?
First, fill out a connect card and let us know you're interested! We welcome your involvement from day one. Since we stress relationships we always recommend trying out a small group to get to know some people or even simply going out to eat with a family or two after church. Ask the pastor, he loves to eat.
7. What type of people go to SPV?
We welcome all people! More than that, we pride ourselves on being a diverse group of people (politically, culturally, and spiritually) that live and love each other in harmony. The people who make up SPV are people just like you. We are a group of people who have experienced brokenness, failure, rejection and disappointment, but we have come to discover the incredible power of Jesus' love and the grace with which He rebuilds our lives.
8. How can I get to know the leadership of SPV and ask them questions?
The leadership of SPV is always available to answer your questions. You can always e-mail any specific questions you have to the pastor or any of our leaders. Their email addresses can be found on the About Us page. You are invited to join us at our next Newcomer Lunch, which is an informal opportunity to meet Pastor Chris and the rest of the staff, and learn all the basic information about who we are and what are about. Plus we give you lunch. It's a good time.
9. What type of music do you play?
Our music is relevant, personal and focused on the presence of God, not the performance of man. It is more contemporary, but we love a good throw-back... It is definitely not boring!
10. Are there opportunities for me to use my gifts and talents at SPV?
Absolutely! Few things make us happier than seeing people empowered to live out their dreams and destiny. We are committed to helping that happen in your life as soon as you feel comfortable jumping on board. We recommend you start with becoming a Greeter, because you will get to see the in's and out's of various ministries, and familiarize yourself with the congregation before jumping in. We call it the "Gateway Ministry" to the rest of the church.
